Three Rivers Race The Three Rivers Race was hosted by Caradon on Sunday 16th March. The rain held off and a record number of 30 Ladies Crews and 37 men’s crews took to the water, making this the biggest Three Rivers yet. The ladies race started at 10.30 a.m. prompt, with Falmouth A in Irene Too taking an early lead. Caradon A in Millers Daughter, Mounts Bay A in Kensa and Falmouth B in Irene had a tight race to the first mark, with Mounts Bay A pulling ahead of the other two gigs to turn second, closely followed by Falmouth B and then Caradon A. On the longest leg of the course, however Caradon A found their rhythm and rowed strongly into second position, with Falmouth B and Mounts Bay A having a closely fought race behind. Falmouth A maintained their dominant lead throughout and claimed a good win ahead of Caradon A, followed by Falmouth B and Mounts Bay A. Following smooth changeovers, the Men’s crews took to the water. After a couple of attempts the first heat started with Caradon A in Millers Daughter, Falmouth A in Irene Too, Falmouth B in Irene, Fowey A in Lantic and Mounts Bay A in Kensa taking early dominance over the rest of the fleet with close racing between these five boats for the first few minutes of the race. Caradon A eventually pulled ahead, closely followed by Falmouth A. Caradon A managed to hold onto their lead throughout the race, until the last leg, when Falmouth A put in a strong surge managing to overtake Caradon A and win by 2 lengths. This year Wooden Spoons were presented for the slowest Men’s and Ladies crews, which were won by Cattewater C rowing Ann Glanville for the Ladies and Salcombe B rowing Bolt for the Men’s. Thank you to all the Clubs that attended the event and for their co-operation in making the day run as smoothly as possible.
